Our Story So Far…

We’ve created this page as living timeline of our story (and progress!) to date. We’ll keep it updated so you can see what we’re up to!

May 2016 – We’re invited to be mentors at the NVI Innovation in Schools program to share our experiences of innovation in Education. For further information on the program visit their Eventbrite event page

April 2016 – We held a Reflect Growth meetup in the April Holiday where we focused on the topic of Planning. We have several members from the group present on Short, Medium & Long term planning, including a presentation from one of our new members on the impacts of Planning from a School leadership perspective. We also ran a paid PD session on the ICT General Capability called “It’s more than Cyber Safety!!” (Storify available here) which was used to provide funding back to the Reflect Growth Project. The team at the Microsoft Innovation Center in Adelaide released a short video showcasing our work with them. (Phew that was a big month!)

March 2016 – We ran our first professional development  course on the ICT General Capability on March the 7th- raising money to continue our work. In response to your needs relating to evidencing your practice for the AITSL standards and your teacher registration boards, we also launched Edufolios.org.  Now educators have the perfect place to reflect on your practice whilst gathering evidence of your practice at any stage of your career.

February 2016 – New school year!!  Things got busy this month – there are over 200 members in the co-create community now.  We worked with some of our co-creators to better define the co-create community to those outside the Reflect Growth project.  We came up with this great video to share with our colleagues. We ran a Co-Creator meetup on February the 20th in which we explored how we set up our learning environment for the new school year and what it means to be an innovative practitioner.   Co-creators shared stories of the decisions they had made when creating their learning spaces and Selena shared her learning about the Lean Change model as we discussed how this might be applied to exploring our own development and growth.  We also had the chance to look at the changes that had been made to the MVP of our app and our co-creators gave us their feedback and influenced it’s development once again.   It’s looking good (if we do say so ourselves)!

January 2016 – Happy New Year! Whilst our local educators are on school holidays we’re busy coding the Reflect Growth App.  The very tough security layer has been completed! We have integration with Facebook, Google+, Twitter and more. We wanted to make it easier for educators to find opportunities to grow so we’ve created the events page a quick directory of what’s on in Adelaide for educators.  We have been gathering connections with associations and consultants so that they can add their courses to an easy to find list – you can add yours if you like? We’d love to grow the list beyond SA.

2015

December 2015 – School holidays are here and it’s nearly Christmas time!  We used the nearness to the New Year to think about our New Year’s resolutions as educators and as a team at Reflect Growth. The app continues to be developed as we work on the fort knox style security layer.

November 2015 – We held a co-creator meet-up at the Microsoft Innovation Center in Adelaide’s City Center. As part of the foundation member cohort at Microsoft we have the opportunity to work out of this space and so we used it to let our local educators share stories about the effects that ‘working walls’ have been having on student outcomes and their own teaching practice.  This meta teacher challenge was met head on and the results were shared by three of our co-creators @markeetarp@jolanta and @jess-heysen.

October 2015 – We’ve introduced a chat applet into the community.  Now it’s easier to have a one to one conversation with your co-creators. Use it to share practice, swap stories and seek advice and resources! We’ve also updated the front page of the site, we’re hoping we’ve made it even clearer how easy it is to join a great team of reflective, educators who are focused on growing their practice.  @Matt and @Selena have spent time at the Microsoft Head quarters filming a short promo for Reflect Growth and the Innovation Center here in Adelaide. Our co-create members are busy working on their “working walls” for this Term’s meta teacher challenge.

September 2015 – Matt pulls together the tools needed for putting together the MVP and begins defining the architecture for the software. Initial focus is on delivering Security and Authentication that will keep everyone’s data safe!. We also provision social logins for Facebook, Google & Twitter.

August 2015 – After a trip to the UK to visit family / friends, we compile the feedback from the Reflect Growth Community and establish the parameters for our Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Next step get building!

July 2015 – We migrate our community site onto the Microsoft Azure infrastructure (located in Australia) to better service our site members. We undertake a Webinar with a few of our Co-Creators to get more feedback on our prototype for the Reflect Growth Minimum Viable Product (MVP). We’re building a deep understanding of what Educators need to elevate Teaching Quality.

June 2015 – We get a mention in DECD Xtra+,  a PD newsletter for DECD employees. We create Marketing materials for up and coming Education conferences, where we will build awareness of the Reflect Growth community. We create a prototype for the Reflect Growth Minimum Viable Product (MVP) using Invision (highly recommend their platform!). We provision Job Stories sharing on our community site, so our members can keep updating us on the features they’d like to see on our software.

May 2015 – We publish an article on the BizSpark AU Blog to spread the word on Reflect Growth. We analyse the data from our first PD Session, award attendees with PD Certificates, and book in a second session for May 30th to delve further into the Teaching Quality Discussions. We meet with our state Education Department to share our work with Reflect Growth. We begin applying for grants to help us grow and develop the Reflect Growth project further.

Apr 2015 – Our co-create community site grows to over 100 members. We undertake our first PD session with 25 of our Co-Creators to discuss the teaching quality framework and reflect on how this relates to our current expectation of teaching practices. We successfully enroll on the BizSpark program and get invited to become a Foundation Member for the Microsoft Innovation Center in SA. We meet with the Flinders Leadership and Management in Education (FLAME) Research Group and get endorsement for the Reflect Growth Project.

Mar 2015 – Three weeks after releasing the Community site we onboard our first 50 Co-Creators.  We design, develop and release the first round of quizes to validate our teaching quality framework.

Feb 2015 – Using the initial feedback from our members we release the Reflect Growth Co-Create Community site, to facilitate a space for discussions on Teaching Quality. We also begin inviting educators to the site to help Co-Create our project.

Jan 2015 – We survey our initial members to validate how they are relating to, and understanding, the project and to identify their immediate needs in relation to Teaching Quality.

2014

Nov 2014 – The Reflect Growth brand is created and the launch site is published. Educators are invited to sign up to get involved and to be kept up to date with our Co-Creation project.

Oct 2014 – The initial draft of the Reflect Growth Teaching Quality document is created after considerable research into both local and international Teaching Practices, Academic Papers, Policies, Guidelines and Initiatives.

Sep 2014 – First meeting with Dr Micheal Bell, Flinders University, to agree our involvement in the research on “Innovation in Education”.  Reflect Growth was identified as a perfect candidate to study Disruptive Innovation in action.
